The paint on the wall is only part of a good job, but it matters. PB Painting works with the full Sherwin-Williams and Dunn-Edwards lines, and we also have accounts with Benjamin Moore, Behr, Vista Paint and PPG if you prefer one of those brands. Products are chosen for each surface and for San Diego’s sun and coastal air. You choose the brand, and we explain exactly which products go into your proposal.
Why the Product Matters
Premium paints carry more solids and higher-quality resins. That means better coverage in fewer coats, stronger adhesion, better resistance to UV fading and mildew, and a finish that stays flexible as surfaces expand and contract. On exteriors, the product line you choose also affects your warranty: exteriors painted with our premium lines carry our longest coverage, up to 7 years. See our 7-year warranty for details.
Premium Exterior Paints
For exterior body and trim, our premium options are Sherwin-Williams Emerald and Duration and Dunn-Edwards Evershield. These are high-performance acrylic paints built to resist peeling, cracking, fading and mildew, which makes them a strong fit for coastal homes and walls in full sun. For a solid mid-range option, Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint is a reliable exterior acrylic. On new or heavily patched stucco we use masonry primers such as Sherwin-Williams Loxon to handle the high alkalinity of fresh cement.

Inside the home we match the product to the room:

Enamels for Trim, Doors and Cabinets
Surfaces that get handled every day need a harder finish than walls:
- Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel
- Dunn-Edwards Aristoshield urethane-modified enamel
- Bonding primers for slick and previously oil-painted surfaces
- Satin, semi-gloss and gloss sheens for durability
These enamels level out for a smooth finish and cure hard. They are our go-to for cabinets, front doors and interior trim.
Primers and Specialty Coatings
The right primer solves problems paint cannot. Depending on the job we use stain-blocking primers for water and smoke stains, bonding primers for glossy surfaces, fiberglass and galvanized metal, rust-inhibiting primers and direct-to-metal coatings for railings and wrought iron, and masonry primers for stucco and block walls.

Sheen affects both looks and durability:
- Flat or matte: ceilings and stucco, hides imperfections
- Eggshell: living areas and bedrooms, soft and washable
- Satin: kitchens, baths, hallways and exterior trim

- Gloss: front doors and accents for a high-end look

Which brand is better, Sherwin-Williams or Dunn-Edwards?
Both make excellent professional products. The best choice depends on the surface, the color and your preference. We are happy to use either, and we can also use Benjamin Moore, Behr, Vista Paint or PPG on request.
Can I supply my own paint?
We prefer to supply materials so we can guarantee the product and quantities. If you have a specific product in mind, let us know and we will include it in your proposal.
Do premium paints really last longer?
Yes. Premium lines have better resins and more solids, which improves adhesion, color retention and mildew resistance. That is why exteriors with premium paint get our longest warranty.
Are your paints low-VOC?
Most of our interior products are low-VOC and low-odor, which makes it easier to stay in the home during the project.
What paint do you use on cabinets?
We use urethane-modified enamels such as Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel or Dunn-Edwards Aristoshield, over a bonding primer.
